Le Cottage

Last weekend we were up at our friend Emily’s cottage in Haliburton for her hubby, and our good friend Colin’s 30th birthday! We mistakenly left our house just in time for rush hour traffic on the 400, but as soon as we cleared that we were off! The trip seemed pretty fast, with a pit stop off at webbers burgers and of course the beer store. The weather was amazing, with the odd scattered thunder showers and some pretty spectacular sunsets. The only downside was that I lost my lens cap in the lake on Friday night when I was trying to take some night shots… I did try to go and find it, but for some reason it didn’t sink into the lake and only drifted away into the night. Below are some of my favourite shots from the weekend, with about a hundred more over at my flickr account!

Here is my first attempt at taking some night photography. For reference, it was 99% pitch black on the dock when I was trying to take these, with an average of about 90 seconds of holding the shutter open. I had a mini tripod, and simply was lying on the dock holding the shutter down, which probably accounts for the slight blurry nature of the foreground objects. I found it quite annoying that I couldn’t really get anything in focus, due to the darkness, but enjoyed this as a learning experience and can’t wait to try this out again.
